Building Your Self Esteem

♥ Believe in yourself. ”You can do it if you believe you can- Napoleon Hill”

♥ Accept responsibility for your actions. If you mess up ‘fess up!

♥ Realize how wonderful you are.  You are unique and talented. There will never be anyone just like you

♥ Fake it. Play the part of a confident person. Act like you’re confident and very soon this part will be real

♥ STOP comparing yourself to others no matter how pretty, clever, confident or rich they are. You’re only setting yourself up for disappointment because there will always be people ahead of you. That’s just the way life is. Focus on YOU

♥ List your positive qualities. All humans are a mixture of good and bad qualities. Look at your good and forget your bad

♥ Don’t pay any attention to people who try and put you down. This behaviour is rooted in their own insecurities – they knock other people to make themselves feel better. And no I don’t believe in the age old saying ”sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” because words can be hurtful. I’ve been hurt by other people’s words and I’m sure you have as well. What I’m trying to say is realize where such people are coming from. They are fighting a battle with themselves. Don’t take everything that people tell you onboard. Don’t let it get to you.

♥ Detach yourself from criticism. Criticism is always hard to take and remember that pretty much whatever you do you’ll be criticised for. As Donald H. Rumsfield said ”If you are not criticized, you may not be doing much.” Do what you love and what you feel is right, for you’ll be critized anyway, whether you do it or you don’t.

♥ Re-define failure (an in depth post on this soon!)

♥ Dress well- it’s always a confidence booster!

♥ Accept who you are and be okay with it. You’ll never be able to please everybody but that’s OK. The sooner you stop trying to walk to the beat of someone’s drum, and start dancing to your own rhythm, the more confident you’ll be.

♥ STOP putting yourself down. You don’t need it from other people and you certainly don’t need it from yourself

♥ Celebrate progress and small victories

♥ Let bygones be bygones. Realize that the past does not equal the future

♥ Spend less time with critical people and more time with those who appreciate you

♥ Work on achieving your goals, one by one. This will build your confidence up as you go about it
