The Power of Gratitude

Meister eckhart: If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you,” that would suffice

Gratitude is a very powerful feeling and something you can start to feel right now. The Universal Law of Attraction says that we attract what we think about and focus on. Its pretty simple-focusing on your blessings will attract more blessings into your life.

Instead of putting all your energy into thinking of what you don’t have and your problems, focus and be thankful for what you do have. We have all been given so much if we just allow ourselves to see it. It is so important to focus on what you have and not on what you don’t have. We must train our minds to see blessings instead of disappointments. When you start to feel different about what you have, you will attract more good things into your life. Maybe you’re grateful for the car you are able to buy, or the flat you’re renting, or the education you’ve been given. You might prefer something else, but if you start to be grateful for what you already have you might get that something pretty soon.

Research has shown that people who tend to experience gratitude more frequently than do others also tend to be happier, more helpful and forgiving, and less depressed than their less grateful counterparts. Think about it- if you’re not appreciative of what you have now, what makes you think you will be appreciative if you have more?

Tips for cultivating gratitude:

Say thank you– Appreciate the people in your life and say thank you often. Thank your parents, your brothers & sisters, your teachers, your friends, your husband, your wife, the woman behind the cosmetics counter, the postman etc. Send thank you notes regularly. I love buying beautiful thank you cards and sending them out.

Keep a gratitude journal-Start your own daily gratitude journal. Go out today and buy yourself a beautiful book. Maybe a book with a beautiful cover or intricate details-whatever takes your fancy. Do you prefer a ruled book or blank book? You choose. Now every night before you head for bed record 5 things you are grateful for. Think deeply about each area of your life-your education, your career, your life, your health and your relationships.  Write in detail the good things that come to your mind as you think. It is crucial to remember to only write down things you are sincerely grateful for or the result won’t be there. Whether it’s the wonderful friends you have or the fact that someone held open the door for you today. The more grateful you are, the more you will be given. After a few months, as you look through your journal your focus will be shifted to all the things you have. You have so much to be grateful for. Focus on the abundance rather than the lack in your life. You’ll be amazed at the satisfaction this brings into your life.

Book of positive aspects– Buy a separate book to write down all the positive things about different areas of your life. Continually add to your book as more positive things come up. Over the course of time, you will have a book filled with the positive things in your life and you can go back to it whenever you feel you need a little push.

Avoid using ”at least”– If you’ve ever sat down to your gratitude journal to see yourself writing sometihng along the lines of ”at least I have a roof over my head” you’ll know exactly what I mean. This happens when you’re actually feeling negative about your life and you’re trying to look on the bright side of things. Please don’t do it. You can enjoy this state of gratitude temporarily but overall it’s not going to get you anywhere and you will still be stuck in the slump of things. Try and look at the broader picture and be truly grateful for things like peace, health, family, electricity and loved ones. These may seem so obvious but from time to time we really need to step back and look at our lives and be thankful for all these things. Become grateful for your life, your very own existence with all its twists and turns. When you feel thankful for existence itself the Law of Attraction hears you and will be activated because you are continuously giving out gratitude and you will be attracting similar things back to you.
